The Charles River Esplanade is a famous park and picnic spot. It features boat houses, lagoons, picnic spots, a half shell concert space, and several top-notch playgrounds. Besides, there are awesome paths for walking, running, or biking. The park has plenty of grassy areas for kids to play and families to picnic. The Esplanade offers beautiful views of the Charles. 2.     Boston Public Garden

Boston Public Garden reflects Victorian traditions to the best of their abilities to make it more beautiful. The park boasts of the Lagoon, the monuments and fountains, rich and unusual plants, and the Swan Boats. Its greenery and beauty make the park a perfect place for picnic and family time. If you visit the area during summer, the nearby beacon hill hotel and bistro offers blankets and picnic baskets!

3.     Boston Common

America’s oldest public park, Boston Common includes a tot lot, ball fields, and the Frog Pond, which provides a spray pool for children in the summer and skating in winter. It’s a great place for picnic lunch and recreational activities. The outstanding views attract a huge number of locals who come here to soak in the sun and have some time closer to nature. Take a stroll by the green paths or play around with your kids, Boston Common will never disappoint you as a picnic place.

4.     Christopher Columbus Park

Christopher Columbus Park is just a short walk from the North End along Boston’s waterfront. It offers a delightful playground, plenty of activities, a pretty rose garden and excellent views of the waterfront. It’s a great place to visit with your family as the kids get to engage in a number of outdoor activities. They can also hop on the Greenway Carousel which is right across the street for just $3 a ride. You can get some sandwiches and snacks from the nearby Fanueil Hall. The rose garden here is dedicated to Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. Visit the place early morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowd.

5.     Spectacle Island

This beautiful place has great sunrise and sunset views and is perfect for a picnic. There are lots of picnic tables but the choice of food is very limited, so it is best to bring some food/snacks along. Located close to the fortress headquarters of the Minutemen, Spectacle Island is quite unique. Just laze around when city life bothers you, or take your family for an adventurous trip. There are plenty of restaurants and accommodation options so you can even have a short weekend trip to the place.

6.     DCR Hatch Memorial Shell

If you love free concerts and family picnic, that this is the place to go. The place is known as an outdoor concert venue located on the Charles River Esplanade. The Hatch Shell hosts the Boston Pops Orchestra for the Boston Fourth of July celebration every year.It is also used for free concerts held on most weekends as well as weeknights during the summer months. There is a huge grass pavilion in front of the stage where families can enjoy a picnic or bring their own seats to have some food.

7.     Shakespeare on the Common

If you are a Shakespeare fan and if you love to watch some drama, then you just can’t miss it. Make sure to reach early so that you can have a good view of the performance. You can get a chair at rental $5 and to bring some food to enjoy the picnic. Kids can engage in outdoor activities at the open area while elders enjoy the spellbinding performance.

8.     Arnold Arboretum

Though the place does not allow a picnic, you can still spend a good time here and at least have snacks. The park allows picnic only once a year on Lilac Sunday.  Have a walk through the park while admiring the gorgeous natural views. You can also hike up Peter’s Hill and witness a gorgeous view of the Boston skyline.

9.     Post Office Square

A great place to have a mini family picnic or to spend some alone time in nature. You can also take a book along and sit by the fountain or the grassy area. Take a break from the hustle-bustle of the city area in this little urban oasis. When the weather is nice, make sure to explore this area and have fun chat with friends and family. You can also take along some sport equipment to play in the open area.

10. Constitution Beach

For everyone who loves beaches and pristine areas, the Constitution Beach area is a great place for a family picnic. You can sit back and relax or simply enjoy the breath-taking views of the place. This man-made crescent-shaped, sandy beach is visited by the huge number of locals throughout the year. Locally known as “Shays Beach,” the most distinctive feature of this area is that it looks directly onto the runways of Logan International Airport. So you can see the planes taking off into the vast sky while you relax by the beachside. Take long walks or engage in water sports and other activities, this place can never disappoint anyone.
