Major Snow Risk Increases as ‘Dangerous Cold’ Grips Massachusetts: Latest Forecast

The National Weather Service remains cautious, forecasting a 50 percent chance of snow on Sunday and Sunday night, followed by a 30 percent chance on Monday. While snowfall totals remain uncertain, any precipitation will occur during a period of dangerous cold that often leads to flight delays, road hazards, and travel disruptions across the region.

Short Calm Before the Deep Freeze

Before the main storm arrives, Massachusetts will experience a brief round of winter weather midweek, with snow showers expected Wednesday evening and up to 2 inches possible in interior areas. Thursday is forecast to be the most comfortable day of the week, featuring mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching the 40s.

Conditions will change rapidly on Friday as Arctic air pushes in. Temperatures are expected to peak near 30 degrees early before falling throughout the day, with gusty winds. Friday night lows will drop to around 4 degrees, with wind chills well below zero. The deep freeze continues through Saturday, with highs near 14 degrees.
