Delta Airlines and Aeromexico recently marked the launch of their joint service between Boston (BOS) and Mexico City (MEX). This highly anticipated route, operated by Aeromexico, signifies the airline’s return to the Massachusetts capital.

The occasion was commemorated during a formal ceremony at Boston Logan International Airport. Key figures, including Todd Smith (Director of Aviation Operations, Massport), and Felipe Cuellar (Deputy Consul of Mexico in Boston), attended the event.

Boston-Mexico City Reunion

The new route between Boston and Mexico City was celebrated with enthusiasm. Customers on the inaugural flight received commemorative gifts, highlighting this momentous occasion.

Looking Ahead

Growth and Stronger Connections Beyond the celebrations, the Delta-Aeromexico Joint Cooperation Agreement (JCA) aims to provide a seamless travel experience. As the partnership expands, it strengthens the vital connection between the United States and Mexico, our second-largest trading partner. With a focus on safety, comfort, and customer satisfaction, this collaboration is shaping the future of cross-border air travel.

Increased Routes and Frequencies

Aeromexico’s ambitious plans for 2024 include significant growth. Starting in January, the airline introduced 17 new routes from seven Mexican airports, connecting them to nine destinations across the U.S.

This expansion will result in increased flight frequencies on existing routes, with nearly 60 daily flights to the U.S. by July 2024. Aeromexico will be present in 36 U.S. markets, representing a 35% increase in departures compared to 2023. The airline’s renewed fleet, including more than 50 new Boeing 737 aircraft, makes these additional routes and frequencies possible.

Enhanced Connectivity and Stronger Partnership: Delta-Aeromexico Joint Cooperation Agreement

In addition to the previously announced growth, Aeromexico is set to operate more than 1,000 monthly flights at Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) starting in October. Delta Airlines will also play a pivotal role, operating 34 daily frequencies to various Mexican destinations by July 2024.

Expanded Options for Passengers

Under the Delta-Aeromexico Joint Cooperation Agreement (JCA), passengers will benefit from over 30% more available seats year-over-year. By 2024, the JCA will offer more than 90 daily flights between Mexico and the United States across nearly 60 routes. This growth reinforces the commitment of the cross-border alliance to bridging the two countries through a robust network, seamless connectivity, and industry-leading services.

Passenger Benefits

The agreement provides enhanced connectivity and scheduling options for customers of both airlines. Furthermore, it deepens the 21-year relationship between Delta and Aeromexico as members of the SkyTeam global airline alliance. Passengers can leverage connecting hubs such as Atlanta (Delta) and Mexico City (Aeromexico) for smoother travel experiences. Additionally, they will enjoy increased connectivity, VIP lounge access, and benefits through SkyMiles and Aeromexico Rewards frequent flyer programs.

The announcement of Delta and Aeromexico's new Boston-Mexico City route could boost Boston taxi services by increasing demand from travelers needing transportation to and from Logan International Airport. With more international visitors attracted to Boston, taxi services may see a rise in customers seeking rides to explore the city's attractions or attend business meetings. The positive publicity surrounding the route's launch could also enhance Boston's appeal as a destination, stimulating tourism and business activity. Overall, the partnership between the airlines could indirectly contribute to the growth and prosperity of taxi services in Boston, benefiting both drivers and passengers.
